The Ant Mill
|As a Detective-Sergeant for a law enforcement agency, I've experienced misery so intense that a hole is burned into my heart. So I turn to reading, music, nature, food, beer, wine, photography, finding vintage photos, observing people, and the Internet for consolation.
My loneliness is a choice. I live in my head, where my case-work and the empty shells of the once-living occupy my thoughts when ordinary activities will not do.
I am an introvert. I enjoy the creative creatures who occupy our space but social situations are like giving blood: I can only give so much.
I have four principles by which I live:
1. I never let anyone rent space in my head.
2. I require others to check their baggage at the door.
3. I never co-sign anyone else's bullshit.
4. What others think of me is none of my business.
“The whole conviction of my life now rests upon the belief that loneliness, far from being a rare and curious phenomenon, is the central and inevitable fact of human existence.” ~ Thomas Wolfe
